The Service – Northumberland County Council in partnership with the County’s Woodland Creation Partnership Group and Local Nature Recovery Strategy Pilot Group have embarked upon the task of creating more woodlands and forests under the Great Northumberland Forest Programme.

The Great Northumberland Forest is a plan to increase tree and woodland cover across the County to help tackle the big challenges facing society such as climate change, biodiversity decline, promoting health and wellbeing, and supporting our thriving local economy.

Our determination to leave a better, more diverse, and more productive natural environment for the benefit of future generations of Northumbrians and visitors to the County can be realised by planting more trees and recovering nature. We will create and improve new and existing natural environments that our children, communities, and businesses will benefit from for decades to come.

The Role:

We are seeking an experienced landowner / farm advisor professional to join the Great Northumberland Forest Team.

As part of the team, you will have a key role in delivering engagement activity for the Great Northumberland Forest programme with landowners and farmers. The programme will facilitate, enable, and support woodland creation schemes and projects of various types and sizes across the county. You will use your expertise to engage, inform and advise landowners and farmers about these opportunities and programme developments.

With excellent written and verbal communications skills, you will plan, manage, and deliver much of our engagement with landowners and farmers. We’re looking for a creative thinker who can ensure far outreach across the county offering farm/land assessment and options appraisal service.

You will need a proven track record of delivering high quality engagement and advice, be able to build strong working relationships with internal and external stakeholders and be excited about making a positive difference to people’s lives in the County through your work.

The successful candidate will have:

- Excellent communication skills – both written and verbal

- Practical experience in an advisory and engagement role

- Experience of developing and implementing processes to provide estate assessment, options appraisals and advice

- Experience of communicating and working with a wide range of stakeholders such as landowners, farmers, businesses, public bodies, NGOs and communities.

- Strong organisational skills, being able to manage multiple priorities and varying pressures to meet measurable targets and deadlines

- Knowledge of relevant legislation, including data protection, copyright and model release

- Knowledge of land-based environmental schemes and new woodland creation incentives/grants

- Knowledge of land management and forestry policy

Offer / Package:

- Salary Band 8. £32,910 - £36,922

- Access to the Local Government Pensions Scheme

- A wide range of staff benefits including a competitive annual leave provision

- Flexible working arrangements
