We are looking for Environmental Health Officers to join a growing team involved in all aspects of Environmental Health including wide ranging neighbourhood issues.

The Council recognises that housing conditions are a key determinant of health and wellbeing and that it will only be by taking a holistic approach to the assessment of housing standards and utilising the full range of housing interventions through both reactive and proactive casework, delivery of projects and a partnership- based approach, that we will secure the best outcomes for our residents.

The work will predominantly be dealing with private sector housing enforcement, nuisance investigation and licensing but you must be flexible to potentially work across all areas within the Service.

This is a career progression post and applications will be considered from Graduates with a relevant degree and genuine interest in a career in Environmentsl Health to be appointed on an appropriate grade as a Trainee Environmental Health Officer, with support provided to enable them to develop through additional study in their roles into fully qualified EHO’s.

Applications are also welcome from Graduate Environmental Health Officers who can provide evidence of a completed CIEH accredited Degree or MSc. Appointment will be at a level dependant upon experience and qualification.
Salary will be paid in accordance with the career progression scheme.

Appointment to the Senior Environmental Health Officer grade will be dependent on evidence or completion of professional qualifications i.e. EHORB Certificate of Registration or Chartered Environmental Health Practitioner Programme.

The ideal candidate will need to have good investigative, decision-making and problem-solving skills, as well as being able to manage time effectively and work well as part of a team.

The role requires excellent communication skills and the ability to deal confidently and effectively with the public, businesses and members of other organisations. A strong work ethic, ability to deal with a varied caseload and a commitment to customer service are essential.

This post is exempt from the rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 and therefore will be subject to a DBS check from the Disclosure and Barring Service.
