The Service
Trading Standards and Animal Health forms part of the wider remit of the Business Compliance and Public Safety Unit. In turn, this sits within the Council’s Housing and Public Protection Service. Whilst operationally managed by as a single team and integrated working is encouraged, Trading Standards and Animal Health are two separate functions with their own dedicated officers, each led by a Senior Trading Standards Officer.

The Role
This is an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic and suitably skilled individual to the team as a Trading Standards Officer. We are looking to recruit those with a flair for finding non-compliance and a determination to resolve issues. The post holders will undertake work aimed primarily at investigating complaints, conducting requests for advice from local businesses and the inspection of businesses involved in the sale of food. Occasional weights and measures related work may also be required. The nature of the posts will require a flexible approach to work including occasionally working outside what are regarded as normal hours. Other essential qualities will include strong written and verbal communication skills, the ability to deal firmly but fairly with people, and the ability to prioritise a demanding workload. Managing priorities and maintaining momentum will be key features for the successful applicants.

We are offering:
- A salary of £32,910 - £36,922 (Band 8)
- 25 days annual leave plus public and bank holidays (rising to 30 after 5 years of service)(pro-rata for part-time employees)

Essential requirements
Essential criteria for the posts include a diploma in Trading Standards or equivalent and over 3 years' experience in dealing with businesses and consumers in a Trading Standards related role.
