Post title: Teacher of the Visually Impaired – full time - permanent

Salary: £23,720 - £39,406 MPS – UPS + SEN 1-2 (subject to qualifications, pay award pending)

Job Location: Belmont C of E Primary School however; you will be required to work at any council workplace within County Durham.

We are seeking an enthusiastic, motivated, well qualified teacher, ideally with a mandatory qualification for teaching children and young people with a visual impairment or willing to complete a post graduate diploma in this field. This is a peripatetic post supporting children and young people with visual impairment and their families in homes, mainstream, and specialist settings across all age ranges. Ideally you will have worked across the primary/secondary provision and have experience in differentiating the curriculum and understanding how important it is to tailor education to specific needs.

You need to be a technology enthusiast with a good understanding of how the accessibility features in mainstream technology can support access to the curriculum for children with visual impairment. You need to have the desire to develop your skills and knowledge of using specialist equipment. You need to continue to develop your understanding of new technologies, keeping up to date with advancements in this field. You need to be able to support others to understand how technology can be used to reduce the barriers of access to the curriculum and the wider world.

Having experience working with Braille and Visual impairment would be advantageous


Required qualifications: Qualified Teacher Status as well as a mandatory qualification for teaching visually impaired pupils or a willingness to complete training within a two year period.
