Further information
Located at the heart of Weardale, an area of outstanding natural beauty, Wolsingham School is just a short drive west of Durham. Based on our four pillars of academic excellence, a rich extracurricular life, character and citizenship, and exceptional pastoral care, we are committed to helping every child fulfil their true potential.
The school has grown and we are now seeking to appoint an additional full time Mathematics teacher who is passionate about teaching mathematics, is an excellent practitioner and is committed to bringing out the best in our students. An additional allowance is available to candidates whose experience shows they can successfully take on further responsibility, either in Mathematics or across the school in the academic, pastoral or ‘personal development’ areas.
We are very proud of our Mathematics Faculty. Over 70% of our students consistently pass GCSE Mathematics; equally importantly, the Faculty is driven to teach students to think like mathematicians. The Faculty has embraced a ‘Mastery Approach’ to teaching and typically participates in a huge range of enrichment activities, including the Maths Feast, MEI Lectures, Mathspolosion and the National Cipher Challenge, as well as hosting workshops on the Advanced Mathematics Support Programme.
Our school has a supportive, family atmosphere. Students are well-behaved and their relationships with staff are excellent. In 2018, Ofsted warmly confirmed our ‘Good’ rating saying, “Pupils are very happy at school and wear their uniform with pride.” We run 10-15 extracurricular clubs each term and a huge range of educational visits throughout the year. Our staff and Leadership Team are also extremely supportive and we provide excellent professional development opportunities. The school itself is in a stunning building that combines original architecture with a new build and is set in extensive grounds.
We are a member of the Advance Learning Partnership, an Equal Opportunities Employer, and we welcome applications regardless of age, disability, gender, ethnicity or religion. Applicants with disabilities will be invited for interview if the essential job criteria are met. Our school is also committed to the protection and safety of its students; any offer of employment will be subject to receipt of a satisfactory enhanced DBS check and appropriate references.
The Head Teacher, Mr Jonathan Ferstenberg, and the Faculty Lead for Mathematics, Miss Sue Parkinson, would be very happy to answer any questions you have or to meet with you virtually. To arrange this or to ask any other questions, please contact Miss Laura Percival, our Academic Logistics Officer, on 01388 527302 or email
info@wolsinghamschool.net
Applications may be downloaded from our website, which includes a video and virtual tour of our school as well as other helpful information. We look forward to hearing from you.
