There is a rare vacancy at Orchard Care for a Social Worker with proven skills in effective assessment and supervision of Foster Carers, ideally also skilled in Direct Work with children including Life Story Work.

This is a great opportunity for someone who is interested in joining a small and successful Independent Fostering Agency with an excellent record of providing Stability for Children in Foster Care. Orchard Care’s ethos is to work in a Systemic way, through making and sustaining good relationships across the team. We work hard to ensure a Secure Base is provided for children to attach to, and that Foster Carers in turn have a Secure Base in the Agency. A crucial part of offering a Secure Base for children and young people is a deep interest in their history and life experiences before coming to Orchard Care which informs our work at all levels.

The team you will become part of is highly professional, dedicated, and tremendously supportive to all within their care. We are a friendly team with a great sense of humour which gives rise to a pleasant, supportive working atmosphere throughout the organisation; this team is comprised of a network of Foster Carers, Social Workers, Support Workers, Teachers, Managers, and a Psychotherapist, plus full admin support.

You must be a fully qualified Social Worker registered with the HCPC. We are looking for a child-centred person with a lot of passion and enthusiasm for their role as a Social Worker in helping young people achieve positive and happy lives.

As a Supervising Social Worker you will assess, supervise and review Foster Carers. You will also contribute to the training and support of foster carers, their families and young people. You will be working in close partnership with colleagues, local authorities and other agencies connected with the foster home. You will be involved in the matching of young people with Foster Carers. You will also form part of Orchard Care’s 24 hour on-call system.

You will be offered regular formal supervision and daily informal supervision and support as well as access to Training - the whole staff team work in the same building, so face to face support is always on tap, rather than relying on e-mail and telephone support for managing the many emotional and practical demands that Social Workers face.

The post holder will undertake any other reasonable duties.


The salary will be paid monthly by bank credit transfer.

The appointment will be subject to:

• Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check.
• Satisfactory medical clearance.
• Satisfactory references.
• Successful completion of a 6 months probationary period unless an exception is made to this.

Mileage will be paid.

Leave entitlement is negotiable. It is set at a minimum of 26 days per year plus bank holidays as specified in your Statement of Main Terms.

You have a right to join a trade union.

Post holder is required to sign up to the Disclosure and Barring Update Service.
