Think Ahead Social Work Consultant

I would like to bring to your attention 2 exciting opportunities for 2 full time Consultant Social Workers (CSW), to support 6 participants through the ‘Think Ahead Programme’.  The 6 participants have already been recruited and will join NCC in August 2021 and will work across the community mental health social work teams.  The CSW role will also support with improving social work quality and performance countywide.

The role involves:



Joining a network of leaders across the country, promoting and strengthening mental health social work.
§  Leading and developing 6 talented participants, who are passionate about mental health and social work.

§  Developing skills in practice, supervision, and education.

Receive fully funded CPD training, including a Postgraduate Certificate in Advanced Social Work.
Act as a leader and role model, providing practice education of outstanding quality.
Work with an academic tutor and assess participants’ ability to put social work theories, interventions, and legislation into practice. (You do not need to be a qualified Practice Educator as you will receive Practice Educator training Stages 1 and 2. If you have PEPS 2, you will do refresher training).
We are interested in social workers or managers with significant experience of working with service users with complex needs. We are looking for enthusiastic candidates who are driven and have the qualities to support  as below. 

·       To play a crucial role in preparing Think Ahead student participants to become outstanding social workers, with a focus on mental health.

·       Under the supervision of  the Adult Care Operations Manager, to manage, coordinate and develop the work of the identified Participants

·       Ensure that participants receive a high-quality practice learning experience.

·       Work closely with the participants’ Personal Tutor to assess their ability to apply social work theories, social interventions and legislation in practice, ensuring they develop skills and understanding to empower people with mental health needs.

·       Responsibility for the participants’ wellbeing and welfare whilst they are on placement.

·       To act as a role model and portray compassionate and inclusive leadership in order to shape the creation of a collective leadership culture within the organisation.

·       Demonstrating a consistent leadership style which

(a) engages, enables and empowers others

(b) uses coaching to promote ownership of learning and quality improvement and

(c) facilitates team working and collaboration within teams / departments and across organisational boundaries.
