Further information

The Children with Disabilities Team is an integral part of Gateshead’s services to children and families. Gateshead’s services to children and families were recently judged as “Good” by Ofsted.

The Children with Disabilities Team is responsible for the statutory service provision to children who have a disability and for developing support plans, undertaking Child in Need and other assessments as required.

We are seeking to recruit an experienced social worker to join our highly effective team. You will join a group of highly motivated staff to work in partnership with children, their parents and external agencies to provide an effective service to minimise the effect of a child's disability.

It is essential that you have a relevant social work qualification or equivalent (SW Degree, CQSW, Dip SW or CSS) and be registered with Social Work England. A minimum of two years post-qualifying experience is required, as is knowledge of child development, an understanding of the Children Act 1989 and experience of safeguarding children. Experience of assessing children and their families, carer and family placements, report writing, presentation and communication skills are also essential.

The team assess, monitor and review Child in Need, Child Protection and cases in Care Proceedings. You will work directly with children, young people and their families who require support and your work will include the completion of focused assessments. With proven experience in delivering statutory children’s social care services, you will have knowledge of children’s legislation, have excellent assessment skills, be a good communicator and be confident in delivering best outcomes for children and young people.

You must be a team player and be able to form positive relationships with parents /carers, colleagues and partner agencies.

If you are successful in being appointed to the post, you will be given access to a range of training and development opportunities, designed to strengthen your CPD and equip you with the tools to perform to the highest standard of practice. Gateshead has a stable and skilled workforce, and Social Workers are valued and supported through manageable caseloads, reflective supervision, and accessibility to senior managers.

As an employee you would receive a generous annual leave package (increasing after 5 years), be a member of the Tyne & Wear Pensions Fund and be eligible to access a range of employee benefits such as the flexi time scheme, child care benefit scheme, annual leave purchase scheme as well as a variety of staff offers and discounts.

It is essential that you have a current driving licence and access to a car or means to mobility support. If successful you will have to apply for an Enhanced Disclosure.
