The Gateshead Multi Agency Assessment and Referral Team (MAART) co-locates Northumbria Police and Adult Social Care in order to improve the initial response to adult concerns in relation to vulnerable adults. The role of the MAART is to bring together key partners and forge stronger links with other agencies which enables information to be shared quickly and effectively and allows better informed decisions and actions to be made by all involved.

MAART will provide an early intervention for Gateshead residents who are experiencing chaotic lifestyles, multiple exclusions and negative social outcomes for themselves, families and communities but who may not meet eligibility criteria under the Care Act and are not engaging with services.

The post offers the chance to gain experience working in a multi-agency environment across a wide range of subjects including, homelessness, substance misuse, sexual exploitation, mental health, self-neglect (including hoarding) and mate crime.

The post holder needs to have direct experience of working with a range of individuals who may present with multiple vulnerabilities such as those with mental health needs, substance misuse issues, or those who disengage from support services.

As part of the role you will support the Social Workers within the team with practical assistance such as providing pieces of assistive technology, undertaking non-complex assessments and reviews, and supporting engagement.

You will have English and Maths GCSE at Grade C or Grade 4 above or equivalent

You must have good communication skills, a commitment to equal opportunities and experience of working with the public.

You will have knowledge of relevant legislation which includes Care Act 2014. An awareness of the Mental Capacity Act 2005 and Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards is desirable

You will be required to use your own initiative and also work part as of a busy team and have the ability to identify when support/advice/guidance is required.

Good IT skills are essential and an awareness of Local Authority Social Care database (Carefirst) is desirable.

You will also have a current driving licence and access to a car or means to mobility support. You will have effective communication skills, a flexible and self-motivated approach and be committed to equal opportunities, anti-oppressive practice and interagency working.

A commitment to continuous professional development and a willingness to undertake relevant training as required by the Local Authority is essential.
