Important information about the role. The Government mandatory covid vaccination legislation effective from 11 November 2021 means that the successful candidate will be required to show evidence of having been fully vaccinated unless you have a medical exemption (certified in writing by a medical professional), due to the fact that they will be working in, or may be required to visit in a professional capacity, a site where mandatory vaccination is a requirement. We are recruiting a permanent Shared Lives Support Worker to be part of a well-established Shared Lives Team where every day is different.

This is an exciting opportunity to be part of a service that has been rated as “Good” by the Care Quality Commission. 

The Shared Lives Service provides an alternative to traditional care, support and accommodation for adults with additional needs, such as a learning disability, autism and dementia. The service supports self-employed Shared Lives Carers across Gateshead who open their homes and lives to others, providing support by the hour, respite, or a live-in arrangement.

The Shared Lives Support Worker is the first point of contact for the Shared Lives Carers, for advice, guidance, and support, and are instrumental in supporting through induction, supervision and achievement and development processes. Ensuring that the care and support provided is in accordance with the Care Quality Commission Regulations, service policies and procedures, health and safety legislation, care and support plans, and the recording of accurate information to inform planning and decision-making processes. Liaising and communication with other parties for the benefit of the service and the service users.

Supporting the Shared Lives Carers to acquire and maintain the skills, knowledge, and good practice skills to fulfil their role, have a positive relationship with those they support, which is respectful of their right to privacy, choice, dignity, enabling them to maintain and develop their independence and to be a valued member of their community.

It is essential that you have experience of supporting adults who have a disability, working independently and as a team member, and can demonstrate effective written, verbal and electronic communication skills. Possess a National Diploma Level 2 in Health and Social Care or equivalent and can demonstrate knowledge of current legislation relating to people with disabilities i.e., Care Act 2014 and Equalities Act 2010, safeguarding adults, mental capacity act, key issues relating to supporting a person with a disability and knowledge of the Shared lives Scheme.
