Further information

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a school middle / senior leader to join the inclusion strand of our School Effectiveness team, ideally from January 2022.

The successful candidate will lead the Education and Skills division’s Access and Inclusion team, represent the division at citywide safeguarding and inclusion networks, provide advice to school leaders on safeguarding practices and inclusion, and work with other agencies to find solutions to complex cases. You will provide support to the Senior Adviser for Inclusive Schools as we implement our city-wide graduated response for inclusion.

This is a high profile role within the School Effectiveness Service as we implement change across the city. For our school leaders, you will be a key point of contact for advice about safeguarding in the curriculum and for complex inclusion cases. It is a chance to make a difference to the lives of vulnerable children across a whole city.

You will be an experienced teacher, most likely in middle or senior leadership, with a strong knowledge of school safeguarding procedures and safeguarding within the curriculum. You will have demonstrable and successful experience of ensuring that children and young people can access education regardless of their needs. You might not be an expert in all areas of safeguarding and inclusion, but you will be able to lead a specialist team to ensure that school leaders receive the support and advice they need.

You will be analytical, able to identify and address key issues. You will have a strong understanding of multi-agency working for the benefit of children and their families, and have an understanding of the challenges faced by schools.

We are looking for a team player. Innovative, knowledgeable, with excellent verbal and written communication skills and an eye for detail.

We are Proud, Fair, Ambitious. We are Newcastle.
