Vacancies have arisen within the in-house Highway Team who deliver the day to day maintenance of the highways and footway networks within Gateshead.

We seek reliable, hardworking and enthusiastic individuals to join our successful team to deliver a range of projects from small scale patching, drainage and footway repairs together with general highway construction and maintenance works.

The Highways Team have a strong ‘can do’ attitude which is focussed on delivering high standards of work to all highway users.

Candidates must be able to demonstrate experience of working in the highway maintenance or construction industry together with a forward-thinking attitude to ensure the service continues to build on its previous successes. The candidate must also hold a CSCS Health and Safety compliance card, or equivalent, and have experience of operating plant machinery.

A full, clean driving licence is essential for the role. It would be desirable for the candidate to hold a HGV license or work towards gaining this qualification.

A NRSWA Operative certificate is desirable as is knowledge and experience of Construction Health and Safety legislation in relation to highways works. Experience of supervising and organising other is also desirable.

The vacancy is available at the Highways depot at Shearlegs Road. You will work a standard 37 hour week, Monday to Friday.
