Sunderland City Council is seeking to appoint an enthusiastic Regulatory Investigation Officer to assist officers in the Public Protection and Regulatory Services (PPRS) team. The successful applicant duties will include the compilation of legal proceeding files, manage debt recovery actions associated with works in default and civil penalties as well as assisting senior officers in the criminal investigations associated with the different areas regulated by PPRS.

PPRS is a multi-disciplined service covering the regulation of Food Safety, Health and Safety, Environmental Protection, Private Rented Housing, Licensing and Trading Standards.

The successful applicant will have a positive ‘can do’ attitude and be familiar with Microsoft applications. The ability of being able to think dynamically to resolve problems, and also able to follow detailed instruction is essential.

General activities of the successful applicant include liaison with officers of PPRS and legal services regarding legal proceedings, warrant applications and ongoing proceedings. The post holder will also co-ordinating witness availability for proceedings, take statements from witnesses and assist in suspect interviews. The role also requires the successful applicant to liaise with the land charges team, invoicing and finance team on debts associated with work in default, that has been undertaken by the authority. The successful applicant will also contribute to wider Council strategies, thus being able to develop and form good relationships with other service areas is essential.
