Middlesbrough Environment City (MEC) is an independent charity that promotes healthy and sustainable lifestyles using the ten principles of One Planet Living. We have an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic and committed individual to support the delivery of Climate Action Middlesbrough, a new initiative to engage Middlesbrough’s communities in taking action to address the climate crisis. The project will work with partner organisations and the wider community to develop community leadership and support changes locally including at a policy, environmental, community and individual level.
You will provide support for specific initiatives within the project, including helping to set up a People’s Climate Forum, assisting in the creation of a similar Young People’s Forum and working with our communities on specific activities to impact on the climate crisis at a local level.
With a sound understanding of the climate crisis, you will have previous experience of running community-based projects and/or giving communities a voice in decision-making. You will require excellent communication and organisational skills and a have commitment to a community-led approach to addressing climate change locally.
