The City Council has just launched its City Plan setting out its ambitions for the City between now and 2030. The Internal Audit service supports the Council in the delivery of its priorities, as well as delivering services to other clients such as four council owned companies, the Tyne and Wear Fire and Rescue Service, the North East Combined Authority and Joint Transport Committee, maintained schools and a range of academies. The service has been consistently judged as meeting the standards of the Public Sector Internal Audit Standards and is considered to be high performing and well regarded by its clients.

We are looking to recruit a high calibre individual to join us as a Principal Auditor to plan, lead and undertake a variety of complex audit assignments, as well as review the work of other staff.

Excellent interpersonal / communication skills are essential for this role. You will be highly motivated and be able to demonstrate initiative and creativity. You should possess a relevant audit or accountancy qualification, e.g. CCAB, IIA or AAT, and have a good understanding of the local government environment and the challenges it faces.
