The Service

Northumberland County Council Housing Stock consists of over 8500 properties. We have a dedicated team within Housing and Public Protection (Voids Team) whose role is to deliver a high quality service where all void properties are repaired to an excellent standard. You will be working within a highly motivated team which is split into 3 areas to cover all NCC stock in Northumberland. The team consists of a Team Leader, 2 charge hands and operatives of all trades in each team.

The role

Working in the Housing Voids Team, your role is to undertake internal and external plumbing repairs to the Council’s void/empty homes, public buildings and other premises.
You will ensure that adequate stores, materials and equipment are available to undertake the necessary repairs.
You will ensure that all work is completed on time and to a high and void standard.
You will assess whether any appliance represents a danger to the occupant and give advice to the occupant concerning the notice and the use of the appliance.
You will ensure that a high level of customer care is adopted when undertaking any repair or construction work.
You will need to be educated to City & Guilds Level 3 Plumbing (or equivalent) and hold a gas safety certificate.
You will have a broad knowledge of building construction along with the Health & Safety requirements associated with the trade.
You must have experience of being a plumber (Gas) and of undertaking gas installations with experience in a customer facing environment.
You must be able to work unsupervised and be prepared to work outside of normal office hours, as required.
This post involves travel to various locations throughout the County therefore you must be able to meet the transport requirements.

Knowledge and Qualifications

You must hold a gas safety certificate
City & Guilds Level 3 Plumbing (or equivalent)
A broad knowledge of building construction.
Good knowledge of the Health & Safety requirements associated with the trade

Experience
Extensive experience of being a plumber (Gas) and of undertaking gas installations.
Experience in a customer facing environment

Physical, mental and emotional demands
Working in a range of positions, sometimes in confined spaces with the need to carry tool, equipment and materials.
Handling chemicals, sealants, pastes and glues and works with gas, water and electric supply
Regular periods of concentrated mental attention
Regular contact with tenants working in their homes may result in some emotional demands
Some exposure to disagreeable and unpleasant conditions

Motivation
Must be self motivated and have the ability to work unsupervised.
Understanding the diverse needs of customers.
Work collaboratively as part of a team
