Fostering 2020: See how you can help children this year through paid foster care
Would you like to work with local children and young people?
Do you have a spare room?
Looking for a new role that comes with great support and training?
We need people from all different backgrounds, to care for all kinds of children and young people across the county, aged from 0 to 18 years. We work with you to see which foster care scheme is best for you and your household.
Join us and our carers on our next “Is fostering for me?” online event - click to book via Eventbrite
Long term foster carers work with children who need to stay with a family until they fly the nest.
The children are generally aged between 5 and 12 years of age when they first come to stay with you. They may stay with you beyond their 18th birthday, where you support them with further education or employment training.
In circumstances where children can’t live with their birth family, long term foster care allows children to become part of a family - whether that is a single person household, or a larger family group.
Short term foster carers work with children of all ages for anywhere from a few weeks up to a couple of years. We work with you to see which age range is best for you.
The basic fee is payable 52 weeks of the year and the fostering allowance is payable in addition to the fee when you have a child in placement. Not all agencies pay a retainer style fee - many only pay when you have a child staying with you.
Salary: Between £457 - £2188 (Per Calendar Month - Paid regardless of placement)
Plus Allowances for the care of the children: Up to £950 PCM per child
Plus mileage and other expenses
Our foster carers benefit from:
24 / 7 support from dedicated teams - including education, health, therapeutic services, respite
Generous allowances (plus individual enhancements) paid for each child
Competitive weekly incomes - paid regardless of placement
Pre-approval training
Guidance on scheme options
An ongoing free training programme including accredited courses
Extensive support network of foster carers and other professionals
Family social events
Discounted and free activities
Active Northumberland - discounted access to leisure centres
Foster Talk membership - including support with self employment
Job satisfaction from helping local children and young people
