Post title: Intervention Worker – full time - permanent

Salary: £25,991 - £29,577 Grade 8 plus secure allowance (£766.20 per annum pro rata). Enhanced hours payments for unsociable hours are also payable to the post where appropriate.

Job Location: Your usual place of work will be Aycliffe Secure Centre, Newton Aycliffe, however you may be required to work at any DCC council office.

Aycliffe Secure Centre is a state-of-the-art secure environment with first class facilities and rated Outstanding by OFSTED. Our philosophical approach is to provide exceptional parenting to our young people and see beyond their behaviour to go the extra mile for them. Aycliffe Secure Centre cares for young people who are sentenced, remanded or accommodated under a secure accommodation order as directed by the courts. They need support and intervention in a safe and caring environment, while working on rehabilitation, education and training in vocational skills and life skills.

The role:
The 11 to 18-year-olds at the Secure Centre come from across the country are likely to have experienced significant trauma, so working in the unit can be tough. They are vulnerable and often arrive with a history of difficult and challenging behaviour. Your personal qualities and life experience will help us create an environment of reflection, education, challenge, personal attention and specialist help. Your talents will help young people develop the values, skills, knowledge, self-control and direction that will enable them to return to the community in a more positive and purposeful way.

Useful information:
You will work an average of 37 hours per week, following a designated shift pattern between 8.30am – 10pm, some evening and weekend work and some bank holidays.

Required qualifications: Relevant qualification that relates to work with children equivalent to NVQ/Diploma Level 3 (or above) in Childcare, e.g. childcare, nursing, teaching, youth work.
