The Service
The Information Governance team is within the Information Services department. It is responsible for all aspects of information governance including GDPR/Data Protection, Confidentiality, Records Management, Freedom of Information & Environmental Information Regulation requests and Information Security. The team is led by the Information Governance Manager/Data Protection Officer who reports into the Chief Information Officer. The team advises and provides tailored support across all Council services including a network of Information Asset Owners, the Caldicott Guardian and the Senior Information Risk Owner. The team helps implement best practice across the organisation to ensure NCC operates to high standards, including those required by the NHS Data Security & Protection Toolkit and wider legislative and corporate standards.
The Role
Northumberland County Council is seeking to recruit a motivated and customer focused individual to join our Information Governance team.
The Information Governance Specialist will assist the Information Governance Manager to deliver an effective and efficient service to both internal and external customers, providing specialist advice and lead strategic programmes of work. They will help embed the information governance strategy/framework across Northumberland County Council, ensuring services are compliant with legislative requirements and receive the appropriate training and support to fulfil their obligations. The Information Governance Specialist will also deputise for the IG Manager within the County Council, dealing directly with the SIRO and Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) as appropriate.
Experience of working to deadlines and prioritisation of workload, dealing with members of the public, good written and oral skills are key requirements of the post. The post will also have line management responsibilities for a number of team members and work closely with Legal Services in relation to complex information governance issues. It will also be responsible for regular reporting of trends, statistics and updates on information governance matters to Information Asset Owners and the information governance board.
