Independent Reviewing Officer/Child Protection Conference Chair - one permanent post and one temporary maternity cover

Grade L.

We are offering an exciting opportunity to join our team of Independent Reviewing Officers. The Safeguarding Children unit is responsible for the chairing of Child Protection Conferences, Children in our Care Reviews including those children with disabilities who have periods away from home, Foster Carer reviews, Pre-Adoption reviews and Secure Reviews.

Care Planning for the Children in our Care is our passion in Gateshead and achieving the best outcomes for children is at the core of our practice. We have embraced a strengths-based systemic approach which puts the child at the centre of our work – Gateshead CAN. We promote the involvement of children and families in the conference and review process making sure their views are fully represented in planning and decision making. Quality standards and auditing are important components of the role. Encouragement is given to develop areas of special interest. Support is provided by Practice Supervisors, an experienced team of Independent Reviewing Officers, Service Manager and Business Support through regular reflective supervision and Appraisal & Development which is part of the Council's annual cycle of planning and performance management.

You must have an appropriate professional social work qualification e.g. Degree in Social Work or CQSW, Diploma Social Work and Social Work England (formerly HCPC) registration and must be 4 years post qualified with managerial/supervisory experience.

You should have substantial and demonstrable experience as a Senior Practitioner or Team Manager in Children and Families work including undertaking interagency work and chairing meetings of a challenging nature. You must have experience of undertaking risk assessments, core assessments and care planning processes. Experience of communicating effectively with children and young people is essential as is having the confidence and ability to work constructively with senior managers by offering critical perspective and appropriate challenge.

In addition, you will have an in-depth knowledge of current legislation, current practice issues, policies, procedures and guidance relating to children, their families and the safeguarding and looked after processes.

You must also have a current driving licence and access to a car or means to mobility support.
