Are you passionate about making a difference for children, young people and families? This post is for a new Independent Reviewing Officer to join an expanding team in Hartlepool, which is a vibrant and energetic town with growing prospects. As an authority we want to make Hartlepool the best it possibly can be and want dedicated, driven and committed staff to help us achieve that.

The role includes all functions attributed to the statutory role of Independent Reviewing Officers as detailed within the IRO handbook including chairing Looked After Children reviews, scrutinising and reviewing children’s plans and supporting children’s participation. You will also chair child protection conferences and foster carer reviews.

You must be child centred, be able to champion best practice and be confident in leading meetings to ensure that the best possible plans are being implemented for children. You must be a qualified social worker with at least five years post qualifying experience within the child protection field and with looked after children. You will be committed to partnership working with families and other agencies and have a comprehensive knowledge of legislation and guidance relating to child protection and looked after children.

We were recently rated Good in our Inspection of Local Authority Children’s Services (ILACS) with outstanding for children in care and care leavers.
