This post is based at the centre of the council in the Resources Directorate which has key responsibility for managing the council’s money and people as well as ensuring that democratic decisions are well informed and legally sound.

Are you looking for an opportunity to gain a Level 2 accounting qualification whilst gaining valuable work experience? Redcar and Cleveland Borough Council has an exciting new opportunity within the Accountancy Service.

The team are responsible for a range of services including:
• Financing planning and budget setting for the wide range of operational services provided by the Council;
• Accounting for key sources of income for the Council such as Council Tax and Business Rates;
• Commercial advice and accounting relating investments in the Council’s land, buildings, roads and other infrastructure;
• In-year monitoring of the budgets of the Council;
• Project and commercial advice on a range of initiatives undertaken by the Council;
• Education and school funding;
• Development and maintenance of a high-performing finance management information system;
• Production of year end accounts and processing of various financial returns to key stakeholders;
• Payment of invoices to suppliers and ensure accurate recording and accounting for financial reporting purposes; and
• Raising invoices to customers and delivery of a credit control service to the Council.

You will gain valuable work experience supporting the team:
• Supporting service managers to financially plan and manage their budgets;
• Provide financial advice to a wide range of customers;
• Support processes to ensure the Council has strong and effective financial management arrangements;
• Be involved in exciting initiatives to improve the way we deliver services to our customers and enhance their roles as budget managers;
• Support the completion of key financial returns to important stakeholders; and
• Promote the role of the Service across the Council.

We are looking for an enthusiastic, hard-working, positive individual who is self-motivated and able to work using their own initiative as well as being a team player. The successful candidate will be committed to providing an excellent service and be willing to learn and develop their knowledge.

Apprenticeship opportunities are open to anyone over the age of 16 years old with no upper age limit. You will need a commitment to attend training to attain the appropriate level of functional skills (Maths, English and ICT) if these have not already been achieved.
