North Tyneside Council is seeking to recruit a Locality Nurse Manager to work within the 0-19 Children’s Public Health Service. The service is based in four localities in integrated teams across the borough.

A CQC inspection of the 0-19 service in March 2018 recognised areas of outstanding practice and highlighted that;

“The service prioritised vulnerable children and families appropriately. Managers and staff were acknowledged as having high levels of integrity, driving continuous improvement and held themselves accountable for delivering change.”

In February 2021 the service was accredited with the UNICEF Baby Friendly Gold Award. The 0-19 Children’s Public Health Service is committed to ensuring that established Baby Friendly standards are sustained and progression is enabled.

The post holder will

Ensure the team is well led, responsive, effective, safe, caring and delivering high quality services in line with CQC, PHE and NMC requirements.

Ensure the Healthy Child Programme is delivered within the locality to children, young people and their families and facilitates an environment where team members are supported to work in new multidisciplinary, challenging and flexible ways.

Support the Senior Manager and Professional Nursing Lead to lead and deliver against the service plans.

Contribute to the overall performance and objectives of the 0-19 Children’s Public Health Service within the public health department.

The Locality Nurse Manager manages a skill mix team of 0-19 colleagues, including health visitors, public health school nurses, staff nurses and midwives, community nursery nurses, public health assistants and administrative support staff.

The essential requirements of the post are:

NMC Registered Nurse or Midwife
NMC registered SCPHN health visitor or school nurse (part 3 of the NMC register)
Significant experience of working as a health visitor or school nurse (4 years plus)

Demonstrable knowledge of:
• Local government
• Policy and practice in Public Health and Health Care
• Legislation, policy and practice in relation to public health nursing practice
• NICE guidelines in relation to public health nursing practice
• Promoting health and wellbeing of children young people and families
• The Healthy Child Programme
• Wider health and wellbeing services

Specialist public health nursing knowledge gained through broad experience within this organisation and/or experience gained outside of this organisation.

Experience of managing a team of specialist public health nursing staff.

Experience of working with the NHS and primary care.

Sound knowledge and experience of SystmOne.
