The Head Teacher and Governors of Southlands School would like to appoint a suitably qualified part-time Teaching Assistant to work with the Dyslexia Team. The team supports pupils with persistent, specific literacy difficulties in mainstream schools across North Tyneside.

The ideal candidate will bring with them:
• Experience and knowledge gained in other schools,
• A commitment and enthusiasm for special needs education,
• An excellent understanding of written English and an appropriate standard of grammar,
• A relevant Teaching Assistant qualification together with GCSE qualifications in English and maths,
• An adaptable, enthusiastic and team orientated manner.

The successful candidate will:
• Have the ability to deliver structured, targeted intervention sessions for pupils in all phases with significant, persistent literacy difficulties,
• Have the ability to deliver intervention lesson demonstrations to individuals or small groups of teaching staff, including Sencos, class teachers and teaching assistants,
• Be able to monitor progress and adapt lesson plans to prepare for future lessons as part of structured intervention,
• Keep careful records of pupil progress, including written lesson evaluations,
• Liaise with school staff to plan appointments to work with pupils in schools,
• Be prepared to undertake training and other CPD appropriate to supporting their role.

• The opportunity to work with pupils with specific literacy difficulties across North Tyneside,
• An experienced, dedicated and supportive team
• Consultation with specialist teachers from the team as needed,
• Opportunities for further training relevant to the role.
