Further information

This is Redcar and Cleveland. We are an ambitious council keen to build on our strong track record of innovation and partnership working, ensuring that we create a flourishing future for the borough and all of its residents. Key to this is a committed workforce who always gives their best. Offering a fast paced, progressive working environment, Redcar and Cleveland Borough Council is a great career move.

We have many reasons to be proud of our existing services for children, young people and their families in Redcar and Cleveland.

We have a passionate workforce who are committed to supporting children and young people to feel safe, healthy, happy and ready to learn and achieve. We respect everyone as equally valued members of our community by listening to their views and using their opinions to help shape our services.

We are a caring and supportive team; loyal and tenacious, with integrity at the heart of everything we do.

Are you the right person to help us to develop a brighter future for our children .
If you share the ethos of Redcar and Cleveland’s Children and Families Directorate, this could be the opportunity you are looking for.

Do you have time to give during school holidays? If so, we have an exciting new opportunity to lead a dynamic team that value and support some of our local authority's most vulnerable children and young people. This could be the opportunity you are looking for to shine, be a member of a team that makes a real difference to children and young people’s lives and supports the ethos of Redcar and Cleveland’s Early Help Youth & Community Service.

We are looking to recruit a Children with Disabilities Youth Leader for 19.5 hours per week during school holidays (i.e. 12 weeks per year). You will manage a team of CWD Youth Support Workers in the delivery of interactive, fun, activity based holiday provisions to children and young people with non-complex additional needs. The holiday sessions will involve daytime work and occasional weekend sessions. Sessions will run 3 times a week in various locations across the Borough.

Salary is NJC F-grade - £13.99-£14.92 per hour.

Significant experience of working and engaging with children and young people with disabilities in an informal setting is essential as is having a good understanding of local issues affecting SEND children, young people and their families.

Applicants need to be enthusiastic, creative and have a flexible approach to responding to the needs of the service and young people, have a real commitment to improving outcomes for children and young people with disabilities and can demonstrate a commitment to the active participation of SEND children, young people and their families.

The authority is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children/young people and vulnerable adults. We expect all staff and volunteers to share this commitment and an enhanced disclosure & barring service check (DBS) will be sought.

For more information or an informal discussion please contact Terry Colley on 01642 513696.

The council is an ambassador status for the North East Better Health at Work Award.

We offer very attractive terms and conditions of employment, including generous annual leave entitlement, flexible working hours (where appropriate), membership of the Local Government Pension Scheme and access to numerous other salary sacrifice schemes and staff benefits/discounts, including a lease car scheme
