Casual as and when required basis at Durham and Mountsett Crematoriums.

The Joint Committees see the needs of the bereaved as paramount and seek to provide a professional, sensitive and sympathetic service at our crematoria and cemeteries.

Both Crematoriums jointly handle approximately 3,779 cremations each year and both have excellent reputations and a commitment to maintaining high standards of service to the bereaved. Overall the Council provides a valued service and one that has achieved a Gold standard through the ICCM (Institute of Cemetery and Crematorium Management). The service has recently been rated by ICCM as the tenth best performing in the country.

You must hold a recognised Certificate of Proficiency in Cremator Operation and additional training will be given on the 2 types of cremator currently in use at Durham and Mountsett respectively.

You will be a dedicated, self motivated and resourceful individual, with the ability to deal with members of the public in a sensitive and professional manner at all times.

Key responsibilities of this varied role include the operation of cremators, cremulators and associated equipment; including strewing of cremated remains and cleaning duties as well as grounds maintenance activities and you may be expected to work in the evenings and weekends.

Your duties could also include the preparation of chapels for services, attending chapels during services, and providing assistance to funeral directors and members of the clergy.

As the crematoria are open every day of the year you may also act as duty attendant on Sundays and public holidays.

You must have the ability to work as part of a team, working to high standards of performance which the service requires. You must also be able to work on your own initiative.

We are members of the ICCM’s Charter for the Bereaved and you should have enthusiasm and commitment to further improving standards of service in accordance with the Charter’s objectives.

You will be able to demonstrate commitment to delivering high quality customer service and travel is an essential requirement of the post, due to the travel requirement between both crematoria as and when required.

Required Qualifications:

• Manual moving and handling
• You must either hold a recognised ICCM or FBCA Certificate of Proficiency
in Cremator Operation or be willing to work towards and additional training will be given on the 2 types of cremator currently in use at Durham and Mountsett respectively.
• Full driving licence and access to a car
• Relevant qualification in amenity Horticultural
• Spraying certificates PA1 and PA6A
