Northumberland County Council has an exciting opportunity for an experienced qualified Social Worker to join the out of hours emergency duty team (EDT) on a part-time, permanent basis. The team consists of Social Workers who are also qualified Approved Mental Health Professionals (AMPH). While it is preferred that the successful candidate is also a qualified AMHP, this is not essential and training will be provided to secure this over the next 2 years. You will need to have 2 years post qualifying experience to apply.

The team is supportive, stable and flexible and is highly regarded by both Children and Adults services. There will be extensive opportunities provided to develop your knowledge and skills in both children and adults social care with an abundance of training. We are looking for someone who can compliment our existing team of staff, you need to be flexible to the demands of the role, which often involves last minute shift cover.

The principal responsibility of EDT is to respond to out of hours referrals where intervention from the local authority is required to safeguard vulnerable children and adults, and where it would not be safe, appropriate or lawful to delay that intervention to the next working day. Our work includes implementing urgent safeguarding plans for children and adults, providing advice and signposting to alternative agencies, in addition to completing Mental Health Act assessments.

The role requires a candidate who is passionate about the welfare of children and adults and has the skills and confidence to consistently work under pressure, prioritise competing demands often on complex scenarios, and routinely manage risk.

At present staff are supported to work home, however adaptations can be made for office working if this is not possible. The hours are on a rolling rota and cover evenings, weekends, bank holidays, including Christmas & New Year therefore you need to be commited to be able to cover these shifts. Overnight from midnight a standby service is provided. There is a competitive salary with further generous additional out of hours payments provided at a rate of 50% of your hourly rate. The salary for non qualified AMHPs is £32910 - 36922 for qualified AMHP's £37890 - 41881 (full time equivalent). This position is 18.5 hours.

As this post involves travelling throughout Northumberland you must hold a current driving licence.
