Derwent Hill is owned and operated by Sunderland City Council in a world class location in the English Lake District – a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

It was one of the first local authority Outdoor Education Centre’s in England and has been in operation since 1962. The Centre has grown since then and we now provide a wide range of services, but our core purpose is still the same: to provide high quality residential outdoor education for the children and young people of Sunderland. Derwent Hill has established a reputation as one of the premier Outdoor Education Centre’s in the UK.

We are seeking to appoint 2 * Apprentice Outdoor Education Tutors who will learn and develop the necessary skills and experience to assist in the delivery of safe, high quality outdoor education and training courses.

In order to apply for this role, you will need to have the aptitude and ability to undertake a Level 3 apprenticeship, which will include on and off the job training with Kendal College. You will be supported through the apprenticeship by an assigned College assessor and you will also receive regular mentoring in the workplace from your supervisor/team.

Apprentices will contribute to a rota of evening and overnight on-call duties for which board and lodging is provided free of charge. Please note, Apprentices are expected to live in.

This post is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 and will be subject to a criminal record check from the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS). Derwent Hill safeguards students & staff by being committed to Sunderland Safeguarding Board procedures.
