North Tyneside Council’s Finance team is seeking an ambitious, professional and dynamic finance officer to support its Strategic Finance team, reporting to the Finance Manager. It is a permanent, full-time (37 hours per week) position working at the heart of the Council.

As a minimum, applicants must be either AAT-qualified or part-qualified accountants with excellent communication skills, strong analytical skills and the ability to work with minimal supervision. Candidates should also have strong Excel skills, experience of dealing with customers and an understanding of local government finance. A good understanding of the issues facing local government, knowledge of general ledger systems (Oracle in particular) and experience of projects would also be desirable but are not essential.

The finance officer will undertake a variety of general duties within the team, but the role will primarily focus on supporting the Authority’s trading companies, whose activities include commercial property construction / renovation and the purchase of affordable homes for rental. The role will support their day-to-day operational activities (with a wide variety of duties including financial monitoring and supporting the Finance Manager in the preparation of VAT returns / financial statements / Board reports / budgets, and the provision of general financial support to the Board), as well as to assist the team with more strategic planning duties (for example, long-term business planning). Due to the nature of the role, housing or private sector accounting experience is also welcomed.
