Applications are invited from practising and committed Catholics for the post of Headteacher at St. Bede’s Catholic School and Sixth Form College to lead the school in the next exciting phase in its development. St. Bede’s is an extremely popular, high-achieving, successful and happy school, and enjoys an excellent reputation in North West Durham and beyond.

At St. Bede’s, our distinct Catholic ethos, high standards of behaviour and commitment to every member of our school community makes this a very special place to learn. We are also responsible for the spiritual, moral and character formation of the young people in our care. This is a responsibility that we take very seriously in our mission to form well-rounded citizens who are ready for the wider, 21st century world. Ofsted and the Diocese have both judged us as Outstanding in our recent inspections.

We became an academy in 2012, and since 2020, we have been part of the Bishop Wilkinson Catholic Education Trust, a family of 5 secondary schools and 22 primary schools from across Gateshead, Sunderland, Durham and Northumberland, in the west of the Diocese. The Trust will expand to a total of 48 schools by 2022. The Headteacher in post at St. Bede’s will be an important part of the Bishop Wilkinson Catholic Education Trust Secondary Headteachers Group and will benefit from the support of the Trust and Chief Executive Officer.

This is an exciting time to lead our school. The successful candidate will have the ambition, determination, and expertise to ensure that the school continues to build on many considerable achievements made over recent years. Above all, we wish to appoint as Headteacher, a leader with:

• A clear commitment to nurturing and promoting the school’s distinctive Catholic ethos
• Outstanding strategic ability to anticipate and lead change to ensure St. Bede’s continues to build on its success
• A passion for providing the best possible holistic education for all students
• A commitment to maximising achievement through excellence in teaching and learning
• A shared commitment to continuing professional development for all staff
• An excellent, proven track record as a classroom teacher and school leader
