An exciting new opportunity has arisen for a Housing Officer (Vulnerable Groups) who will work within the Council’s Housing Options Team to undertake the day to day provision of services to support and manage various vulnerable groups who reside in the City.

The focus of the role will be to manage Unauthorised Encampments and ensure that camps are sited in acceptable safe locations, Traveller’s welfare requirements are met, and our Unauthorised Encampment Policy is applied.

The post will also co-ordinate work to accommodate Asylum Seekers within the Government Programme, linking locally with the Home Office, appointed partners and the North East Migration Partnership as well as supporting those experiencing domestic violence.

The successful applicant should have a background in working with vulnerable groups and be able to adapt their approach when engaging clients to ensure they are supported and empowered to move towards independent living.

You will be the first point of contact for vulnerable groups and be required to undertake a variety of assessments (depended on the client group) in order to achieve the required outcomes. You will work with other supporting services, both internal and external to the Council and must be able to develop robust working relationships.

Applicants should have experience of working with Travellers, Asylum Seekers, Refugees and those experiencing domestic abuse. You should possess a supportive, patient, but determined nature and have a passion for supporting vulnerable people to enhance their lives within independent living.

You should also have a good track record of providing and delivering effective solutions within a housing environment or with vulnerable people.

This post is exempt from the rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 and therefore will be subject to a DBS check from the Disclosure and Barring Service
